The steely determination

-In the Economic Times dtd. 01.12.2017, a headline caught my attention - that of Modi. He says,

I am aware of the big political price I will have to pay for the steps I have taken, the path I have chosen. I am ready to pay the price for better India.

This made me to sit up and take notice of the man who uttered these words.

These kind of words would not have come from an ordinary politician. It requires much more than a mere politician to make such a statement. It requires abundant courage, nerves of steel and unwavering belief and confidence in the task he has taken upon himself to make such a pronouncement. Rightly admitted by him, he has put his political career to risk by the bold initiatives of Demonetisation & GST.

Both are disruptive initiatives of humungous magnitude on a pan India scale affecting the lives of every citizen. They have not only disruptive of status quo but also drives the citizen from the comfort zone which he was so comfortable with for a decades together. No politician of ordinary make would have ventured into the kind of hazardous and polemical issues that too in his maiden term. This shows he is a man of different mettle. And one has to admit that he has put nation's intrest above his personal interests.

This enormous gamble makes him "stand out from the crowd". Apart from Demonetisation and GST other initiatives like linking Aadhar to gas connection, for opening a bank account, for registering property, the efforts towards less cash economy, digitisation etc., to mention a few are no less unpopular either.

He should not be distracted with controversial issues like beef eating, cow vigilantism etc and allow him to focus on more important and urgent issues bothering the nation.

I am reminded of the words of Mahatma Gandhi who said - "They oppose in the beginning, criticize later and accept finally ". Will these words of Gandhi become prophetic in case of Modi? One has to wait for some more time. The disparate & discredited opposition and a clear majority for his party would have emboldened him to embark on such non populous and bold initiatives to some extent. This is not to take away the credit he deserves. One has to "give the devil its due" .

How Gujarat will respond to all these, is what the nation is watching. Will it goes the UP way?  If it, then, Modi will become even more unstoppable which may be a good augury for the country.

  1. True to his nature, Mr.Modi has chosen the path not treaded by ordinary politicians who want to appease the common people by populist measures. He wants the Indians to keep their head high and say we are Indians. Hope he will get one more term to clean the debris.

  2. Nice article, as his moves always leave everyone one guessing.. Yes, for a good governance, one should be ready to sacrifice, according to him, may be power also.. But he is leading the pack of a few, who has shown this courage in the past...

  3. Wave of positive change has begun. The path may be uncomfortable but it's better than staying struck. To be Wise is purely a choice.

  5. A very short and sweet article.

Yes, Modi is a man of different mettle. Any other leader, even from BJP, wouldn't have handled Doklam the way he did. Called the Chinese bluff that was long overdue. Made them eat humble pie. Even when Xi was here on invitation and his troops were encroaching in the Ladakh area, Modi told Xi, at the time of seeing him off after dinner, that he had asked his troops to counter the Chinese and that he would discuss it in detail the next day. That's when he hadn't even settled down. The Chinese were testing the new leader, as they have done in the past, and found him to be a tough nut.

Demonetization was a brave move. The motives were appreciated, but it could have been a harakiri easily. Sucking out 84% of currency in one fell swoop was no ordinary decision. The implementation could have been a lot better though.

GST was actually not his idea. But, credit should go to him for building a consensus and getting the bill passed in the Rajya Sabha, where he didn't have majority. Here again, implementation could have been better.

All said and done, no unbiased mind can deny that build a strong Bharat is his aim and he is working very hard for it.

May his efforts bear fruit so that we can all be proud Indians. Jai Hind!

  8. Nice short article on Modi explaining his brave decisions on demonetisation and GST which could have even cost his political career. This proves his genuine concern for the country and its people. It is high time people understand him properly and support him in his endeavours in cleansing the country and making it a global leader.

  9. Sir, I beg to differ here.
I am aware of the big political price I will have to pay for the steps I have taken, the path I have chosen. I am ready to pay the price for better India.
what is the context of better India? is it divide and rule policy in the name of religion caste and creed or is it taking india together as one nation, one intention, one goal. however, if second point is what PM is looking forward then even on later stage if this turns better it's good for all but if it's only "Talk" and "Not walking the Talk" its more dangerous than what it appears now.
Demonitization is not well thought out process scientifically, socially and finanicially. it's only politically motivated thought process. GST is something which was required a desperate move by BJP to get intellectuals (corporates) attention who were longing for such tax system since UPA era for which UPA gathered scientifical approach to implement but was stopped by same Modi. Since there were equal number of BJP states which did not approve GST implementation it was stalled. hence, it's big political mileage for BJP.
Due to unscientific demonetization and GST implementation I can share statistics of the impact in small scale industries, job loss, and many developmental plans which were ready for implementation is been pushed under the carpet.
